What is this and why is it valuable
One problem with traditional forms of evaluation is that they may not satisfying to someone that has strong emotions about what they are trying to evaluate.
Checking 'strongly dissatisfied' may not uncover the strength of a person's
dissatisfaction. 'strongly satisfied' may not cover an event that was actually
life-changing.
This applet is designed to show how emotionally based evaluation can be used give feedback about an instructor. The assumption is that most feedback for a student's like or dislike of an instructor is due to the student's emotions. As stated most forms limit the choices to a few values. But, even when students have the choice to fill in any possible number, not much information is learned. How does filling in 1,000 by one student compare to another student filling in 1,000,000. However, if the student is so upset that they're willing to click a button 4,293 times... you gain a quantitative measurement how really upset they are.
The idea also is to make the feedback a 'natural mechanism'. That is, it is something that has a real-world counterpart and intuitively makes sense.
